About Hayes Opticians

Meet The Team

DSC00434.jpg

Hayes Opticians was born in 2009 with a dream of being a small family practice that would focus on thorough examinations and an excellent quality service. Now 10 years later, we are still happily looking after the eyes of Torbay!

We strive to put our patients first and to keep up with the latest technology. In a market dominated by large optical groups we are dedicated to providing our customers with a catered individual professional service. Your eyes will be examined by a qualified optometrist while your spectacles will be provided by fully trained dispensing staff.

Mrs Lynda Hayes originally opened the practice with her husband, Mr Eiohn Hayes. After working in the area of Torbay for many years, they decided to open their own practice in the heart of Wellswood developing a loyal client basis. Since Mr Hayes passed away in 2020, Mrs Hayes & her team continue his legacy by providing quality patient care, thorough examinations and a friendly service.

After graduating as an MC Optom in Johannesburg, I have provided eye health care in many diverse settings working as both a practice and domiciliary optician. My husband and I were drawn to the area of Wellswood due to its community feel and idyllic location. I am very proud of my team and the reputation we have created providing a friendly service whilst upholding professional standards. When I’m not working, I am busy looking after my little dog Paisley, my two daughters and weeding the garden!

I have been working in optics now for over 25 years. As you can imagine, a lot of things have changed in that time and keeping up to date with changes is what helps to keep the job fresh, embrace change! If I’m not at work, I’m probably at a BMX track somewhere in the country with my son, Henry. One thing I love about working at Hayes Opticians is the team. We are more than just colleagues, we are more like extended family.

Having worked in optometry for over 38 years, I’ve witnessed massive improvements in diagnostic equipment. I am proud to know that I am working in a practice using the very latest in imaging, OCT and visual field screening. My colleagues, while being very professional, are a lovely group of individuals making coming to work a pleasure (most days!). In my spare time, I’m vice chairman of Torbay Hospital League of Friends, as well as a Governance Trustee at Upton Vale Baptist Church.

I have almost 50 years of experience in optometry. I have spent the last 10 years with Knapman Hayes home visiting opticians, an independent family run practice which provides an essential service for the housebound. In my down time, you’d find me walking along the coastal paths or cooking up something on the BBQ! It is a pleasure to work with like-minded people, always ready to listen to individual needs,

and have a laugh.

I’ve been working at Hayes Opticians for about four years part time. You’ll occasionally see me running around in both home visits and at the practice in between studying and dancing. I’m so grateful to be around professionals who not only aim to provide top quality service, but also treat patients as individuals and not just a number. My favourite part, spectacle choosing! Plus, I get to work with my mother (Lynda) which is always fun!
